Compassionate Treatment for Narcissism

There is help.

Self-esteem, identity, and self-worth are at the heart of narcissism and related disorders. You may have difficulty maintaining a positive and stable self-image. Perhaps you worry that you aren’t good enough or won’t be liked and valued by others. Maybe you feel stuck in relationship patterns where you constantly seek approval and validation - or others have given you that feedback.

Narcissism doesn’t usually look the way we imagine. You are more likely to feel depressed and anxious than confident and self-assured. You may even feel empty inside or like you don’t really know who you are. As hard as you try to feel seen and understood, you still feel invisible.

I specialize in working with people who struggle with narcissism and related disorders.

My approach utilizes a combination of contemporary research and intensive training in psychodynamic and relational models of therapy to help people identify and work through the core issues and problematic relationship patterns that define pathological narcissism.

If you or a loved one is struggling,

you’ve come to the right place.

A Deeply Misunderstood Disorder

Narcissism is very misunderstood. Typically used more as an insult than a diagnosis, the term conjures images of preening vanity or worse - something cold, predatory, or even evil. There is a strong online movement underscoring these misconceptions. People who experience narcissistic issues have a very difficult time finding support.

In truth, narcissism is both tragic and painful. Author and clinician Stephen Johnson calls narcissists used children in reference to the deep, early emotional betrayals thought to underlie narcissistic disorders. Narcissists are wounded to their very core. Most spend their lives laboring under the false belief that they must construct a blameless, perfect self that will finally “earn” them the experience of feeling loved.

The narcissistic stereotypes saturating popular media are inaccurate. The type of narcissist that most imagine - vain, egotistical, callous, and manipulative - is actually exceedingly rare in clinical presentation.

The majority of people who seek treatment for narcissism are depressed. They experience debilitating anxiety and chronic feelings of emptiness or shame. They are afraid to trust others. They feel misunderstood by everyone including those who are closest to them. Many have contemplated suicide.

But there is hope for those who suffer from narcissistic issues.

Narcissism is very treatable for those who want help.
